Sports Car Together Fest Returns to IMS for a Critical Carrera Cup Race Weekend

INDIANAPOLIS, IN

The second annual Porsche Sports Car Together Fest arrives at Indianapolis Motor Speedway this Labour Day weekend with events celebrating sports models and racing from the German brand. Carrera Cup North America presented by Cayman Islands, will headline the weekend with rounds 13 & 14 of the 2022 season championship running on Saturday and Sunday. The doubleheader weekend offers a critical opportunity for Parker Thompson, who enters the weekend just sixteen points off of the Pro-Class championship lead. The Canadian-born Indianapolis resident will aim to pilot the No.9 machine of JDX Racing, Shell Tap-Up, Surgere, Byers Porsche, Renier Construction, Jersey Mike’s Subs, and SSi Artificial Lift to the top of the podium, with just two weekends remaining in the season schedule.

Twenty-four-year-old Thompson is a multi-race winner at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, with victories on the venue’s Grand Prix course in three different race cars, including a Porsche 992 Cup in 2021. Repeating that performance in 2022 will be a greater challenge. With the top three drivers separated by just 32 points, Carrera Cup North America is showcasing the parity and competition that make Carrera Cup the world’s premier one-make racing series.

Adding extra intrigue to this Indianapolis event, four-time NASCAR Champion Jeff Gordon will make an appearance. The fifty-one-year-old will look to assert himself among a field of up-and-coming young pros. Currently embroiled in a tight championship battle, Thompson understands the stakes involved in this championship series event. That said, he also grew up watching the Hall-of-Fame driver Gordon and is excited for the opportunity to race alongside him.

Parker Thompson
“Sports Car Together Fest was an incredible weekend in 2021, and I’m excited to rejoin the event in 2022. Porsche puts on a great event; the fact that it happens in my backyard makes it even more special. On top of that, I’ll get to share the track with a true racing icon in Jeff Gordon! I have a great group of friends and partners here this weekend, and we’re going to make the most of the festivities. At the same time, we’re here with one goal in mind: winning a championship. We’ve had some great performances this year to date, but we’ve also seen how there is no margin for error. We need to be at our best. We’re going for it!”

Team Pelfrey Indy Lights to Test Parker Thompson

INDIANAPOLIS, IN.

Team Pelfrey is delighted to announce that Parker Thompson, one of the most successful drivers on the Mazda Road to Indy in recent years, will be testing with its Indy Lights team at the upcoming Chris Griffis test on September 22nd and 23rd.

20 year-old Thompson, who finished second in points in the 2018 Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires with three wins, is now turning his attentions to the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Series after winning multiple races on the Mazda Road to Indy dating back to 2016.

“I have been dreaming about the chance to get behind the wheel of an Indy Lights car since I started my car racing career,” said an enthusiastic Thompson. “This is definitely one I am proud to check off the bucket list! I have been in touch with Gary Neal and Dale Pelfrey for quite some time now, and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of their organization at the Chris Griffis Memorial Test.

“Team Pelfrey is a household name throughout open-wheel racing in North America, and I look forward to adding their championship winning pedigree to my resume. It’s an honor to be chosen to lead the team at Chris Griffis Memorial Test as they look to build a 2019 Championship campaign.”

“I am happy to announce that Parker Thompson will be driving the #2 Team Pelfrey Indy Lights machine at the upcoming Chris Griffis test,” noted Gary Neal, Team Pelfrey Indy Lights Team Manager.  “I have followed Parker’s progress through the Mazda Road to Indy over the last few years and I am looking forward to seeing him make the next step with Team Pelfrey.  We will work hard together, both at the test and beyond, with the goal of contending for the 2019 Indy Lights Championship.”

On-track action gets underway this weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, September 22nd and 23rd.
