Thompson and the No. 12 Fight Hard in Tumultuous Race at Road America

ELKHART LAKE, WI

Parker Thompson and the No. 12 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 squad showed grit and determination at America’s National Park of Speed, battling through a chaotic race to finish 11th in the GTD class. Despite the final result, the team delivered a standout performance for the majority of the two-hour, forty-minute contest. A late-race incident resulted in a penalty that dropped the team to the back of the field.

Thompson impressed in qualifying, charging hard to outpace the Lexus GTD Pro entry by more than a second and securing 5th position in GTD. During a caution-filled opening stint, he and the team executed an aggressive fuel strategy to move the car into podium position before handing over to teammate Jack Hawksworth to close the race.

Hawksworth continued where Thompson left off, racing his way into second place before an ill-timed full-course yellow forced the No. 12 to pit under caution, cycling them to the back of the GTD field. When action resumed, an incident during a heated battle resulted in a drive-through penalty that dropped the team out of contention.

“Road America gave us plenty of adversity,” said Thompson. “We knew we had a shot to fight towards the front after qualifying fifth, and we gave everything we had to make that happen. Hats off to our Vasser Sullivan crew—they were flawless. We just need a bit of luck, and we’re hoping to find it at VIR.”

With three rounds remaining in the IMSA WeatherTech Championship, Thompson and Hawksworth remain firmly in the GTD title hunt. They sit second in the standings, 112 points off the lead. The team returns to action August 24 at VIRginia International Raceway.

BOWMANVILLE, ON — Parker Thompson and Jack Hawksworth delivered another strong championship result for the No. 12 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3, securing a third-place finish in the GTD class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP).

The weekend started with dominant pace for the No. 12 team. Hawksworth and Thompson topped the charts in Practice 1, Practice 2, and then Hawksworth put the car on pole position in Saturday’s qualifying session.

Hawksworth started Sunday’s 2-hour 40-minute sprint race from the front of the GTD field, controlling the opening 36 laps. But the race took a tough turn for the team during their mid-race pit stop. A caution period brought much of the field in together, and congestion on pit lane cost valuable time. Hawksworth handed the car over to Thompson, who rejoined in 10th.

Thompson wasted no time attacking on the restart, immediately gaining positions and fighting back toward the front. As strategies cycled through, he briefly regained the lead before a final fuel stop dropped the No. 12 back to fourth. Despite several late-race cautions limiting green-flag running, Thompson worked his way back to third place before the race ended under yellow.

It was the No. 12’s fourth podium of the 2025 season, and the result lifted the Vasser Sullivan Lexus squad back to second in the GTD championship standings with key rounds remaining.

Parker Thompson:

“Unfortunate end, but with a big-picture mindset, this is a day we needed. You’re not going to lose the championship on a day your rival finishes second and you finish third. You’ll lose it when you make a big mistake, and they capitalize. All-in-all, the No. 12 Vasser Sullivan Lexus team are doing what we need to do to keep this championship alive for us. Now, we head to Road America with hopes and dreams intact, ready to go compete even harder.”

Jack Hawksworth:

“Hard-fought third-place finish today. The No. 12 Vasser Sullivan Lexus team did a great job all weekend, giving us a really good RC F GT3. We qualified up front and controlled the race early on until that pit stop in the middle of the race. Lost track position there, and then Parker did a really good job at the end to get his elbows out. The guys made some good calls to get us positions back as well, so that was a positive way to end the race. Obviously, would’ve liked to have done a little bit better, but we’ll move onto Road America and try again.”

The third-place result is Vasser Sullivan’s best-ever GTD finish at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and marks another strong weekend in an intensely competitive season.

Up next: The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship heads to Road America, where the No. 12 team will continue their push for the GTD title.

Late Race Heartbreak for Thompson and the No. 12 Vasser Sullivan Squad at Watkins Glen

Late Race Heartbreak for Thompson and the No. 12 Vasser Sullivan Squad at Watkins Glen

WATKINS GLEN, NY — Parker Thompson and the No. 12 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 came agonizingly close to victory at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen, leading the GTD class into the final minutes of the race before running out of fuel with less than half a lap remaining. After a dominant run that saw Thompson and co-drivers Jack Hawksworth and Frankie Montecalvo out front for most of the second half, the team was credited with an 11th-place result.

Thompson, who qualified and started the No. 12 in fifth, delivered a strong opening stint in rapidly changing weather conditions. His return to the car at the halfway point proved decisive—Thompson surged to the lead and maintained control of the race before handing over to Hawksworth for the final hours.

“It was a championship day for five hours and 58 minutes of the Watkins Glen six hour,” said Thompson. “The only thing we can do at this point is put our heads down, get to Canada and try to recover some of the points that we’ve lost. Full focus ahead on the championship. It’s only halfway, and we’ll give it everything we have for the rest of the season.”

The IMSA WeatherTech Championship continues July 12–14 with Round 7 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario—home soil for Thompson, and a key opportunity for the No. 12 squad to bounce back in the GTD title fight.

Second-Place Finish for Thompson and Hawksworth at Laguna Seca

Second-Place Finish for Thompson and Hawksworth at Laguna Seca

MONTEREY, CA — Parker Thompson and Jack Hawksworth delivered another strong result for the No. 12 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3, earning a second-place finish in the Monterey SportsCar Championship at Laguna Seca. The finish marks the team’s third consecutive runner-up result and strengthens their hold on second place in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTD standings.

Starting from sixth, Thompson wasted no time making his move, rocketing to the front of the GTD field with a bold pass on the outside line of the Andretti Hairpin. He took the lead before settling into second, holding that position for the duration of his opening stint. After running consistently at the front for two stints, Thompson handed the car over to Hawksworth with just over an hour remaining.

Hawksworth rejoined the race in ninth, but once the pit stops cycled through, he regained second place — a position he would hold to the checkered flag. The finish ties the No. 12’s best-ever result at Laguna Seca.

“Most of my race was decided in turns 1 and 2 on the opening lap, to be honest,” said Thompson. “It was kind of funny because we talked about the difference between the inside and outside lanes. I was pretty sold on going to the inside, but when I saw the outside open up, I decided to send it, and it worked out pretty well. This was a good day. To leave here with solid points and now head to some tracks that are really good for us — it was an excellent day for our team and our championship aspirations.”

“Mega race for us,” said Hawksworth. “We qualified further back than we would have liked, but Parker just ripped the start and took it from sixth to first, which really put us in a position to fight and run up front the whole race. To get second, full credit to this Lexus Vasser Sullivan team. It’s always a tricky track for us, so to escape here with a second, we are really happy with that.”

The runner-up finish continues a strong early season for the No. 12 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3, which has now recorded consecutive second-place finishes at Sebring, Long Beach, and Laguna Seca. The team remains second in the GTD points standings heading into the next round at Watkins Glen, June 19-22.

Second at Long Beach Moves Thompson and Vasser Sullivan to 2nd in GTD Standings

Second at Long Beach Moves Thompson and Vasser Sullivan to 2nd in GTD Standings

LONG BEACH, CA — Parker Thompson and Jack Hawksworth delivered a strong result for the No. 12 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3, finishing second in the 50th running of the Grand Prix of Long Beach. The result marks the team’s second consecutive podium and moves them into second place in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTD standings.

Thompson started Saturday’s 100-minute sprint race from pole after an impressive qualifying effort on Friday. In the race, he controlled the opening stint, leading 25 laps and building a comfortable gap at the front of the GTD field. After 37 minutes, he handed the car over to Hawksworth during the team’s scheduled pit stop. The No. 12 crew opted for a left-side-only tire change to gain time in pit lane, but the stop, combined with prototype traffic, saw Hawksworth return to the track in third position.

Just before the 47-minute mark, Hawksworth overtook the No. 89 sister car to move into second place. He held that position to the checkered flag, securing a second consecutive second-place finish for the No. 12 entry.

“We always knew coming into this race that competitors who aren’t running the full GTD championship might be willing to take more risks,” said Thompson. “But it’s days like today when you have to think big picture. We’re proud of our second-place effort, and we’re holding our heads high as we head to Laguna Seca.”

“In terms of a points day, it was really good,” said Hawksworth. “The weekend as a whole was really great. Parker did a great lap in qualifying to get us up front, and the first half of the race was going really well. We were just on the wrong side of strategy. We pitted too early and ended up in prototype traffic. That allowed a few cars to jump ahead. I tried to put pressure on the leader, but we just didn’t quite have enough. Still, it was a great result for the championship.”

The result continues a strong legacy for Vasser Sullivan and Lexus Racing USA on the streets of Long Beach. The team has now scored four consecutive podium finishes at the event across GTD and GTD PRO competition, including back-to-back wins in 2023 and 2024.

The finish marks Thompson’s second consecutive podium at Long Beach. In 2024, he won the GTD class at the event alongside Ben Barnicoat. It is also Thompson’s fourth career IMSA pole position—three of which came in 2024 at Daytona, Long Beach, and Watkins Glen.

Hawksworth and Thompson are contesting the full 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season in the GTD category. The No. 12 SealMaster-liveried Lexus RC F GT3 now sits second in the GTD championship standings heading into the next sprint round at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
