Parker Thompson Clinches CTCC Championship in Exciting GP3R Race Weekend

Trois-Rivières, Quebec

In an action packed race weekend at Circuit Trois-Rivières, Parker Thompson clinched the 2019 Canadian Touring Car Championship title for the GT Sport class. With two races remaining in the 10 race schedule, Thompson has mathematically secured his first sports car title, piloting the #1 New Road Automotive Group / Speedstar Motorsport Audi R8 LMS GT4 to dominant victories in seven of eight championship races.

Participating in two CTCC races as part of the annual GP3R Nascar weekend, the twenty-one-year-old Alberta native saw his perfect season to this point, come to an end in Race 1 on Friday night. After leading the opening 10 laps of the race, Thompson was forced to retire after receiving contact from the #27 GT Cup while the pair navigated lapped traffic.

For Race 2 on Saturday, Thompson started from pole-position and held top spot among GT Sport competitors for the duration of the 40-minute race. The win gave Thompson 946 points in the 2019 CTCC series, nearly double the total of his nearest competitor. He is set to win the championship in only his first season driving sports cars, and helps New Roads Automotive Group and Speedstar Motorsport extend their list of achievements in racing.

Parker Thompson
“Trois-Rivières has become one of my favourite places to go racing. The venue has an incredible atmosphere that always leads to a great event. Between great race action, and fun laps in some great Audi sports cars for a few special members of the crowd, we put on a great show. Throughout the weekend, the New Roads Automotive Group and Speedstar Motorsport team really demonstrated to everyone what they are all about. I’m so fortunate to get my introduction to the CTCC with such a great team, and I’m proud to be able to reward all their hard work with a 2019 Championship.”

Thompson and Speedstar Motorsport Continue Authoritative Campaign in Canadian Touring Car Championship

SHANNONVILLE MOTORSPORT PARK, BELLEVILLE, ONTARIO

On a beautiful Canada Day weekend at Shannonville Motorsport Park, Parker Thompson continued his winning ways in the Canadian Touring Car Championship. Now six races into this 10 race 2019 schedule, Thompson is undefeated driving the #1 Audi R8 LMS GT4 of Speedstar Motorsport and New Roads Automotive Group.

For Thompson, the weekends event represented his first drive of Shannonville Motorsport Park. With only one 15-minute practice session ahead of Saturday’s qualifying round, it was crucial that Thompson quickly accustom himself to the 15 turn, 4.0 km road course, east of Toronto. For Race 1, he earned pole position late in qualifying, and then lead the 40-minute race from start to finish. Sunday’s Race 2 took place on the shorter 2.5 km Pro-Track and followed a very similar storyline.

The young Albertan has led every single lap of the Canadian Touring Car Championship season to date. While he and Speedstar Motorsport were considered by many to be strong favorites for the 2019 championship title, such a dominant performance was unexpected. For Thompson, the success that has been experienced so far, is expected to serve as foundation for future endeavors in sports car racing.

“Many thanks to Frank Law and the whole Speedstar Motorsport team for our performance this weekend. As a driver, coming to a new race track with limited preparation time is no easy task. The team did an incredible job helping me get the #1 Speedstar Motorsport / New Roads Automotive Group Audi R8 LMS GT4 up to speed quickly. With our performance so far this year, it’s very easy to be confident in this race car. I’m looking forward to the remaining events in this 2019 season, and I’m excited about what opportunities might lie beyond that!” – Parker Thompson

THOMPSON AND SPEEDSTAR MOTORSPORT CONTINUE DOMINATION OF CTCC IN ROUNDS 3 AND 4

CALABOGIE MOTORSPORTS PARK – OTTAWA, ONTARIO

The Canadian Touring Car Championship season continued this weekend at Calabogie Motorsports Park with two races headlining the Kyle Nash Memorial Race Weekend. Driving the #1 Audi R8 LMS GT4 of New Roads Automotive Group and Speedstar Motorsport, Parker Thompson extended his winning streak with overall race wins on both Saturday and Sunday. He has now taken the overall victory in four-out-of-four races this 2019 Canadian Touring Car Championship season.

The weekend’s races took full advantage of the Ottawa area race track, utilizing two unique track configurations for races on Saturday and Sunday. Action began on the circuits shorter 2.8 km Stadium Track, where Thompson and the New Roads Automotive Group / Speedstar Motorsport Audi topped the field in qualifying and took the checkered flag with a 35 second margin. Driving the full 5.0 km track for Sunday’s race, Thompson again showed commanding pace – taking pole position, the fastest race lap, and the overall victory.

The weekend further demonstrates that the experience and skills that Thompson developed competing with open-wheel cars over the past four years translates well into Sports GT racing. Now involved in multiple sports car championships on both sides of the border, Thompson has been on the podium or better each time that he has raced a car with doors and a roof.

“I’m so proud to be working with a great group of people at Speedstar Motorsport and New Roads Automotive Group. It was our goal to make a big splash in the Canadian Touring Car Championship. I think we are doing exactly that and I’m excited to see where our team goes from here.” – Parker Thompson

Thompson Dominates in CTCC Debut with Speedstar Motorsport

CANADIAN TIRE MOTORSPORTS PARK – TORONTO, ONTARIO

In a busy weekend of racing to open the 2019 season in Canada, Thompson dominated Canadian Touring Car Championship (CTCC) races. The Alberta native drove the #1 Audi R8 LMS GT4 of Speedstar Motorsport and New Roads Automotive Group to two overall race victories at the Victoria Day Speedfest held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. The performance puts an exclamation mark on what has been a commanding start to Thompson’s 2019 season. Across 4 different series, Thompson has already raced 12 times. He has won five of those races and been on the podium for all but two of them.

Joining the CTCC and Speedstar Motorsport presents an opportunity for Thompson to expand his career outside of open-wheel racing.

“Speedstar Motorsport has a great history in the Canadian Touring Car Championship. They have proven great results in international series as well. I’m excited about future possibilities that exist with the team and their partners.” – Parker Thompson

With Thompson behind the wheel, the #1 Audi R8 LMS GT4 of Speedstar Motorsport and New Roads Automotive Group, dominated both CTCC races on the weekend. Thompson qualified on pole position for both races, and was never challenged during race action.

With future endeavors in other series on the horizon, Thompson and the team had a watchful eye on the SRO GT4 America’s races that also took place as part of the Victoria Day Speedfest weekend. Running cars identically classed to Thompson’s Audi R8, the GT4 America’s series features drivers from around the globe and participation from a variety of manufacturers.

In the Speedstar Motorsport / New Roads Automotive Group Audi R8, Thompson marked a lap time that bested not only all CTCC competitors, but all GT4 America’s entrants as well. In fact, the 1:23.332 that Thompson posted is faster than any GT4 lap on recent record at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park.

“We’re racing guys over in the SRO GT4 America’s paddock. We’re comparing and making sure we’re faster than all the manufacturers over there. The Speedstar Motorsport / New Road Automotive Group #1 Audi R8 was on rails all weekend long. It’s amazing to drive for this team. Thank you to everyone who came out from New Roads Automotive Group and Audi Uptown.” – Parker Thompson
